A Clinical Study of the Facial Injuries



Abstract
The cases reported in this paper include all patients with fractures of the facial bones, admitted to the Department of Plastic Surgery of Han-Yang Uni. Hosp. during last 2 years.
During this period, A total of 26 patients with fractures of the facial bones were admitted to this hospital.
Fourteen patients(53.8% of the total) had fractures of the mandible. The other 12 patients had zygoma fractures( 7 patients), nasal bone fractures( 3 patients)and maxillar fractures(2 patients).
The incidence was 22 patients (84.6%) in male and 4 patients (15.4%) in female.
The greatest incidence of the disease occurred in the age group of 1540 years.
The most common causes were traffic accidents (69.2%).
The injuried site in mandibular fractures were follwings.
1) Bilateral fractures were 4 patients, 7 patients in left side, and 3 patients in right side.
2) Most common site was symphysis (35%), condyloid process (20%) and body (20%).
3) Multiple fractures were 42.8%.
The combined injury were 10 patients in fractures without facial bone, 8 patients in major laceration, 7 patients in cerebral contusion, one patient in subdural hematoma, and the other one is amputation of left arm.
The treatment were intermaxillary fixation, inter-osseus wire fixation with arch bars and rubber band in almost cases.
The almost patients were complete healed without any complication within 8 weeks.
